'All is well and good': KONTOR 1710

The performance culture of the KONTOR 1710 production partners is not only shaped by its impressive credentials and identification, but also characterised by fairness and responsible trade in an economical, ecological and social respect. This is the basis that we work from when monitoring most of the products in our range, manufactured according to the principle of sustainability.

InSight

We, Andrea Neumann-Claus and Christian Claus, founded this virtual firm as a family business and we run it with passion. It was inevitable that our hunt for meaningful ideas to shape personal living spaces – in both the literal and wider sense – would culminate in the concept of 'KONTOR 1710'...... and now we can share our 'finds' with you. In our search for all things well and good, it also made sense for us to take a look across our own borders from time to time, to see what our neighbouring countries had to offer – particularly those in the north. The researchers who carry out the 'European Quality of Life Survey' have been telling us for years that Scandinavia is unparalleled in Europe when it comes to the satisfaction of its population. Is Nordic design so highly regarded on an international level because it reflects a special quality of life? It is precisely this correlation that seems to provide an enormous incentive for quality.

"When we talk about an increased quality of life, the main thing we have in mind is the inspirational effect provided by our portfolio and the experiences of our customers. But we also look at quality of life from another angle – through the eyes of somebody who conceives and manufacturers our products." (Andrea Neumann-Claus)

What does the figure 1710 have to do with KONTOR?

We have had a strong connection with the island of Föhr, which lies in the very north of Germany and close to the Danish border, for a number of years. We have furnished and continue to maintain several holiday homes there, which provide an insight into the spirit that was also the inspiration behind the ‘KONTOR 1710’ product range. Memories of mild summer evenings on the beaches of Föhr gave us the idea for the name of our virtual shop: the town Wyk in Föhr was given the right to hold a market on 5 December, 1710.

"We see ourselves as embodying the tradition of late Hanseatic merchant culture combined with the modern claim of mirroring the respect we have for our natural living space in our actions. That is why we set ourselves the task of selecting items that are not only technically suitable, but also responsible in an ecological and social respect." (Christian Claus)

'KONTOR 1710' is more than just a registered brand. The name is a guarantee of responsible action in both meanings of the term – and we underline this with conviction.
